Extending Victorian Dining Tables

At Canonbury Antiques we carry a large range of extending Victorian dining tables. These large dining tables are perfect for hosting bigger dinner parties and large functions as they can extend to accomodate more guests when the occasion arises.

They work of the leaf system – smaller sections of wood (normally 24 inches wide) – can be slotted into the table as it expands. Some of the bigger extending Victorian dining tables can have 2-3 extra leaves so you make the table bigger by six feet (182CM) if required.

Frequently the extending Victorian dining tables will work off a system where you extend the table via a wind up mechanism, normally a handle at one end which you turn and the table expands. As it gets bigger you can drop the extra leaves in – or take them out when you don’t need to use them, for everday use for example. It really is the ideal set up for home dining.

Classically, these extending Victorian dining tables come in mahogany with D shaped ends and very bulbous hand turned chunky legs. It’s definitely a chunkier, more solid look than their Regency cousins. Regency dining tables are less heavy and work of a pedestal system – they also work of an extending leaf system. Again we can offer various chair and table combinations so come and see us to try them out. Another popular type of extending dining table is the Jupes table which extends outwards via a system of concentric leaves. Again, the perfect piece for larger dinner parties and family gatherings such as Thanksgiving and Christmas. For interior designers looking for that perfect extending Victorian dining table, our North London antiques showroom is conveniently located in the Hertfordshire countryside – just 25 minutes north of London. We used to have showrooms in London but around fifteen years ago we took the decision to move out of central London so we could have more space and of course most of the business had by then moved online.
