You are viewing a gorgeous pair of hand painted Sevres style cache pots in light blue and with ormolu fittings. Each pot has two hand painted panels on them, one on the back depicting flowers and leafs and the front depicting cherub and cupid scenes. There is also some very intricate ormolu work to both pots, including the banding on the brim of the bowl, the bases and, of course, the lions head handles. Both pots are in perfect condition and ready for home use right away. They are the ultimate in home decoration and are highly collectable. Sèvres, porcelain made at the Manufacture Royale (now the Manufacture Nationale) de Porcelaine at Vincennes, and subsequently Sèvres, near Paris, from the 18th century to the present day. In the 18th and early 19th centuries, it was France\’s pre-eminent porcelain factory, whose products were influential throughout Europe. Among the first producers of high-quality soft-paste porcelain in France were the factories at St Cloud, Mennecy, and Chantilly, and it was Chantilly that provided the expertise for the launch of a new venture at Vincennes in 1738. Orry de Fulvy, brother of the French Minister of Finance, hoped (vainly, as it turned out) to recoup his gambling losses with the profits of porcelain production, and set up his factory with four disaffected workers from Chantilly. From the start, the factory was beset by financial and personnel problems, but technical developments led to an improved soft-paste body (pâte tendre, a porcellaneous substance that is not true porcelain) and the production of high-quality pieces which attracted royal and aristocratic attention. Lifelike ceramic flowers, often displayed in vases embellished with gilt-bronze mounts, were an early speciality.
